 bonjour mesdames et messieurs!
Author Message
Post bonjour mesdames et messieurs!
I’ve recently become infatuated with Antoine and, of course, the fashion and history of the 1700s.
I'm very much excited to learn more!

A pleasure to be here! :)

Dear Adrienne;
Merci! ^^

Dear baron de batz;
I really can't say what got me very interested in her... It consists of many things.
Her melancholic end, her appearance, her environment, her personality, her growth as a
person in time... all contributes. She really is quite a captivating person!

Forgive me if this wasn’t what you meant when you asked “Tell us more about your infatuation”.
I have not been sleeping. (Excuses, excuses!)

I believe this infatuation really started when I watched a documentary on her. I had
never really known too much about her before then. The only thing I did know was
that “Let them eat cake” was not at all true.

Thank-you for the welcome! ^^

Dear Anouk;
Thank-you kindly! ^^

We're all in the same boat and none of us really know why!

Its' an exclusive kind of infatuation because most of us are bored to death by contemporary culture but can discourse for hours on the 17th and 18th century! :) I'm only really truly happy when I'm surrounded by things from that time, places, paintings, music, buildings.

Dear Lilly;
Hehe, thank-you kindly! ^^

Dear baron de batz;
Haha! Indeed! How strange it is! ^^

Bah humbug, I am the scrooge to our current society.
It's so... soulless and dull! I could go on, but I shant.

I'm so glad to hear of people not liking our current society...
May we be the ones to change it!

Oh to have lived then!
However, that being said, I'm sure they had their problems too...
But at least everything was lovely (can't say as much for the poor though.)

I often find myself emitting happy tears when I see, read things from the 1700s...
When I am rich (and an eccentric) my future mansion shall be all late baroque style and I shall walk about in powdered wigs!

Ahem, anyway!

I couldn't help but notice... that you state you dwell in Paris...
Silly of me to ask... But is this true?
(How lucky you are!)

Yes I dwell in Paris....to use your poetic phraseology.

I am indeed lucky in as far as I live in my thoughts here and for me this city, its' roads, places and architecture are associated with my passion for the 18th century, so I am always only ever a few yards from the next association in my mind. However I admit that this can sometimes be a lonely pastime, as it is not easy to share something that other people can't really understand. Not only do they not know the place, the historical event nor the person, but they don't care either, so there's no point sharing it. Whereas for a crazy person like me, locating the hotel where Charlotte Corday stayed before killing Marat warms my heart, as does seeing the courtyard where the Queen squatted down to relieve herself the morning of her execution. Everytime in the bus when I pass in front of the Conciergerie I see Marie Antoinette in her cell....every time without exception. Paris is history in stone, as are cities like Rome, Naples and Florence for example, which is why I love Italy too.

Dear Baron de Batz;
Ah, to live in such a place!
Is it not wonderful? To see such historical places and to feel that feeling of–
How should I put it? Of ecstasy.

I’ve always believed that we are never alone – In no matter what it may be.
There, perhaps, may not be many people where you live that enjoy those moments of ecstasy as you do.
But I am sure there a few... diamonds in rough as they say. :)

I should very much like to visits those places when I go to France!

Indeed! Any place with history is worth visiting I figure!
Even if I don’t know much about a particular historical happening I certainly won’t reject the possibility of learning about it.
