 Marie Antoinette as Erato
This past week, I found this lovely portrait of La Reine as Erato: http://crossoflaeken.blogspot.com/2009/09/marie-antoinette-as-erato.htmlIt's quite different from all the other known portraits of her. Has anyone else seen this portrait before?

I have seen it on Tea at Trianon. Do you know if this portrait was recently discovered because until today I never seen a portrait of Antoinette as Erato.

It's great!!!! I had never heard of it! I'm wondering why she chose Erato among the >Muses; Erato is the Muse of love poetry, so in a way it seems fit to the Queen's grace and beauty

She looks beautiful even if I am not sure that these themes suit her. That is because of a portrait "Marie Antoinette en vestale" which I dont like but I couldnt find it to post here. If I manage I'll scan it from the book for you to see. I find it somehow unnatural to her type of beauty especially as it was painted in 1791 when the other style of presenting herself she adopted suited her much better. Thank you Rosalie for information! Must check when this was painted.
... 88, so I suppose it is a technique. I'd like to see some similar but I dont think it will be easy to find.

Is this the one you are thinking of? There is also this one:

The first one is a bit like Du Barry, maybe because of her poise. But no, her face is similar, too!
