Post Vestier Antoine or Jean-Baptiste André Gautier-Dagoty
Hello,

I have seen this portrait of Marie Antoinette in a riding dress a few times online. Mostly this painting is attributed to Vestier Antoine, but on a couple of sites I have seen it attributed to Jean-Baptiste André Gautier-Dagoty. Personally I thought it was Vestier Antoine, but would be grateful is anybody could confirm.

Also, I have seen two versions of the painting. One of which with the Temple of Love to the left and another with the Temple of Love on the right. I guess one of the images has been flipped, but not sure which is the official image?

I have seen this painting, my favourite of the Queen, at the Marie Antoinette exhibition a few years ago in Paris. It is in the private collection of the Rothschild. The temple of Love is to the left. I have a well done copy on my wall at home. Olivier Blanc in his excellent book on painters at the time of Marie Antoinette attributes the painting to Dumont.

Hello baron de batz,

This is also my favourite painting of the Queen. It is so beautiful. I read that it is in a private collection, which is a shame for those wanting to see it in the flesh. How lucky you are to have had this opportunity to see if for yourself. Thank you for confirming the position of the Temple of Love. Oh a copy on your wall sounds wonderful. Is this the correct Dumont?
