The second argument is quite right to me. They didn't want any relicts, it was dangerous for revolutionists. I remember the situation when after cutting head of the queen one man jumped to put his kerchif in the queen's blood. And quards quickly pushed him away...

Right... But I still wonder. Those sources that say that her body remained lying on the ground for years... I'd like to investigate more...

I'm a bit vague on this but I have it in my head that the body lay for some time (days?) because nobody had made any arrangements to bury it. I think this information was taken from the bill submitted by the gravediggers who did, finally, dig the grave and bury her. Or perhaps they were just slow in submitting their bills???

I'm sure that some of the masks have been made more into spectacles to gross people out rather than to provide an accurate portrayal of the people...like the ones with all the blood on them... but it does convey the sheer horror of the revolution. I can't bear to think of la reine at the guillotine, but indeed she was guillotined....

My understanding is that she remained lying on the grass of the "cimitière de la madeleine" for two days, her head between her legs, before being buried in a mass grave in the same cemetery.
