Post Bertiere's l'insoumise
Is there a readily-available English translation of this text (Marie Antoinette L'insoumise)? I know French a tad, but not enough to read extensively into this book.

I possibly have obtained a French copy; well, I have sent a request out through my contacts who are in the academic field. It's not easy finding one nowadays, at least here in Australia.

I noticed on Amazon that the one reviewer of the book said she was writing a translation, but unfortunately, I don't think it ever happened. Unsure whether she abandoned it or the publisher/Bertiere denied her the rights.

I have never seen any translation of this excellent book.

What a disappointment.

I don't suppose any member/s of this forum would contribute to an English-translated version? One could even contact the publishers or Bertiere and ask to publish it.

It'd be fantastic if we could create a secret/hidden section where the discussion/translation of this text could be conducted. I've read several (translated) excerpts, but of course as pointed out, no translation fully exists. A few people could work on the French to bring a fresh, guided perspective (I daresay I could contribute from part to part, just not as fluently and quickly, particularly with more idiomatic phrasing) - and of course I'd be more than willing to edit the English, having a history (no pun intended) of doing that.

I don't think we would face too much animosity, anyway: I read here, on a previous thread, Bertiere's letter. If I translated it correctly, she didn't like Fraser's biography too much, but at the same time she did mention that her publishing house was too small or something of the sort for it to manage a deal with an English one. Which I disagree with, since her biography seems quite popular amongst the French and French-reading historians (and non-historians alike).

I have met Simone Bertière and I could gain access to her if I wanted. However this project seems enormous and I don't have the time, even if I have the language skills. This kind of book doesn't usually attract the major publishing houses, too specialized.
