Post subject:  "A Herculean Adonis"

This is how a lady in a "position" at the time to know, described the brilliant (and at the time, young) aphorist Chamfort. We owe this wit more than our thanks for passing on his observations of humanity, but also for his part in the establishment of what would become France's national library. I like to think that the original editions of music I collect that are stamped "Bibliotèque Royale" were saved because of his work.
