Ladies would it help to have a place on this board for discussing other historical figures? I'm not adverse to diversifying the forum a little bit and giving us a space to talk at length about some other of the interesting women in history. They have popped up in discussions here before and it seems a shame for some of that talk to be lost in a web of threads.

In fact I've had it in the back of my mind to create a sister site or sites for some time about a range of other women in history, but these things take time and I've never managed to set aside enough to do it. I have half a biography of Eleanore of Aquitaine sitting on my hard drive needing some TLC which I'd love to put online at some stage. One day I'll manage to do it!

I am also passionate about Anne Boleyn.

Me too Melly! What books do you have about her? I have The six wives of Henry the 8th by Antonia Fraser and The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn by Eric Ives. Haven't read the Ives book yet, but I did enjoy the Fraser book.

oh I think the Tudors are interesting. Not much of an Ann Boylen fan. I always felt so bad for Catherine of Aragon

I just heard that a film about Mary is in the works with Scarlett Johansson as the queen. I think she would have made a good Marie-Antoinette but I don't know about her as Mary Queen of Scots....

Are we going to get hit with a wave of movies about tragic Queen's?

I agree with you. It seems that Anne was a bit harsh to Catherine and my sympathies always went to her. However, I did feel bad for Anne at the end of her life - being executed for crimes she didn't commit.

I was always the most fascinated with Katherine Howard - Henry's fifth wife.

I heard that Scarlett was going to play Mary Boleyn - Anne Boleyn's sister and lover with Henry VIII (before Anne) - as well.

There's a whole thread about the movie on Philippa Gregory's website: http://www.philippagregory.com

Thanks, Arietta!!!

Maybe someday Scarlett will play M-A in a more historically accurate film about her.

I felt bad for Anne at the end too....but I felt the way she had treated not only Catherine of Aragon but her daughter Mary was quite cruel!

For me the first marriage was always the most interesting....

I agree with you. Anne was much too cruel to Catherine and Mary. Catherine was loyal and devoted to Henry, I feel so bad for what happened to her.
