Post The Merry Queen by Pierre Nezelof
I found this book at a used book store, and I was delighted. It's a novel, one I'd never heard of. This is as offensive to the name of Marie Antoinette as it could be.

" Marie Antoinette was less the charming and wholly virtuous person portrayed by most historians than she was the frivolous, fast, pleasure-mad creature who through her own mediocre intelligence, pride and stubbornness caused, to a great extent, her own unhappiness and that of those surrounding her."

Um. M'kay. This is what it says on the description of the book. It then goes on to say that she had many lovers of both genders, it attacks her husband, and speaks of her probably non-existant affair with Count Fersen as something that "made her human." I'm afraid to look further than the text on the inside of the book's jacket, there's no telling what else the author's got to say. :banghead: Good thing it wasn't too expensive...
Anyone else read or heard of this one? :|

It sounds like there is only one place for such a book, the garbage can.

It is old. It was published in 1934, I believe. It's too bad books like this get published...

That's what I thought. Usually older books about Marie Antoinette are anti- Marie Antoinette.

It's a shame that this book is so horrible... It's got an attractive cover...
