 Re: Catherine the Great
What are some good books about her? I recently bought one called Catherine the Great: Love, Sex and Power by Virginia Rounding. (It's part of the list biographies I need to read this year.)

 Re: Catherine the Great
I read John T. Alexander's Catherine the Great a long time ago. It focuses on her political role in Russia and not so much personal.

 Re: Catherine the Great
What I liked about this biography is that it was perfectly balanced. That I also read in the recommendations, that unlike many it deals with her as a monarch and as a woman not giving too much prevalence to her personal life which some other biographies do, neglecting her achievements in her first role as a monarch. Also it was quite easy to read so I would recommend it. Author is credible, which was important for me as I wanted that my first biography give me some good and accurate information.

 Re: Catherine the Great
I see you've turned into a goatherd Marija! A downward turn in your fortunes? What do your family think of this career move?

Ah but dear Baron, she is now coquette bergère!

 Re: Catherine the Great
That reminds me of Rousseau's "Devin du Village", opéra comique which MA played in in her little theatre at Trianon, taking on the rôle of Colette: "La bergère un peu coquette rend le berger plus constant...!" Nice silly 18th century lyrics!

 Re: Catherine the Great
Well, Baron is right. I am facing a bankruptcy ( wealthy baron have no such worries ), living in high society got me in the end so I am getting back to my simple roots. But Delicate fleur is right as well, as I am taking the best out of the situation. Have no worries, I will bounce back. Attachment:

 Re: Catherine the Great
Well I am disappointed Marija because I was unaware of your simple roots! Pray how did you manage to get presented at court?! Du Barry style?!?

Would you have me a "false" Baron Madame?

 Re: Catherine the Great
I think Monsieur that you missed my point, which means that you failed in the 18th century wit. I was referring more to moral of barons, not their titles. Read again...
