I do not think that Jules went to america. He had offices at Versailles that required his attendance at Court.

Speaking a little about the Princesse de Lamballe... She had a husband that died one year over their marriage... The relationship between them...How was it? Did she loved him? Did he loved her?

I read that her marriage was never consummated; they were young and her husband was too busy with other ladies. She never married again because there was no prince of suitable rank for her to marry. But her old father-in-law was devoted to her.

At first Lamballe wasn't for marriage at all with the Prince Lamballe. She quoted, "Not him or any other man in the world!"

She, however, became very depressed when he died and during her moments of depression, Marie came into her life ("An angel" as Lamballe would quote her) and she aided her sorrows. Marie even sat down eating dinner with her and quoted we can't always live for ourselves. It's beautiful because the Queen quoted while wiping Lamballe's tears,

"I am about to renew a situation, which has for some time past lain dorment, and I hope my dear princess therewith to establish my own private views, in forming the happiness of a worthy individual (Referring to her dear friend Lamballe :D )

Princess Lamballe replies happily, "No other individual could be otherwise than happy under the immediate auspices of so benevolent and generous
Sovereign."

Marie replies, "If you really think as you speak, my views are accomplished."

I thought this was the most beautiful moment between the Queen and Lamballe personally. By the way these quotes came from the book, "The memoirs of Princess Lamballe."
This book shows mainly the depth of friendship between Marie and Lamballe.

Yes, the queen really brightened the princess out of her depression and was like an angel of mercy for her.

Marie was an angel to both Polignac and Lamballe, while Polignac had also the greatest influence on the Queen, she too, was aiding the Queen's sorrows.

Today, Sept 2, is the Feast of the September Martyrs, honoring those who were massacred during the Revolution in Sept, 1792. Madame de Lamballe was killed at that time.

It's strange because he isn't on this list:
http://www.heraldique-europeenne.org/Re ... Ecuyer.htm

Or in wikipedia:
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89cuyer

Could he be wrong on the magazine article? I think that it was the Prince de Lambesc who was First Écuyer...But, in the other hand, you say First Écuyer of the Queen, and not of the King...Was there two écuyers? One for the King and other for the Queen?

I agree with Pimprenelle, I red several times that Jules de Polignac had had this work for Marie-Antoinette.

And when there were budjet restrictions in 1788 I believe (I'm not sure of the date), Marie-Antoinette removed this work with a great regret :D
