She was married to duke de Gramont, de Guiche, and was nicknamed "Guichette" by Antoinette.

I knew she was the Duchesse de Guiche; I forgot about the "Guichette." That is very sweet.

Marie Antoinette even helped with the finiances and money involved. She spent a heavy amount of money to support Polignac and her family as well.

Of course, they were her family by adoption ! Who could she have for family in Versailles ? Aunts ? Artois ? Provence ? Ah ah ah !

And she came from a huge family, she needed this "clan" warm atmosphere.

It was stronger than her, Therese, she always nicknamed people ! Madame l'etiquette, Mousseline la sérieuse, Chou d'amour, ma lionne...

She would always, always write to her mother, it was sad because she missed being home with her family. Polignac, Lamballe, Elizabeth, Louis, they were all she had left in Versailles! They were her family.

Yes, she came from a large family, who were much more relaxed with each other than the Bourbons were en famille. With the Polignacs she could be herself. Yes, Pimprenelle, she thrived in a "clan" atmosphere!

I think her way of bestowing nicknames was delightful and also something her own family in Vienna had done.

Hello!
Nicknaming people was a brave thing for a foreigner to do... Didn't the queen hurt Madame de Noailles etc without a meaning to be unpolite but just playful. I think Marie Antoinette's sense of humour was much much better than those in Versailles, especially the older generation.

Marie would carry around a fan and she would hold up the fan to keep herself laughing from the older crowd.

:D I love her spirit!

Yes, she was a cheerful and delightful person, in spite of her private sorrows.
