That was the beauty to Marie, she had sorrows which she expressed to her close friends weeping and everything not supressing it inside. But she made sure that her sorrows wouldn't get in the way of her normal duties as a Queen or wife.

She was quitte a beauty. Madame Campan says, about her: «Her character suited the Queen; she had merely natural talents, no pedantry, no affectation of knowledge. She was of middle size; her complexion very fair, her eyebrows and hair dark brown, her teeth superb, her smile enchanting, and her whole person graceful. She was seen almost always in a demi-toilet, remarkable only for neatness and good taste. I do not think I ever once saw diamonds about her, even at the climax of her fortune, when she had the rank of Duchess at Court.»

Please find hereafter another portrait of madame de Polignac, where you can see her candid clear eyes and her wonderful dark hair :

This portait, also by Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun, is ma favourite one.

I think that is my favorite potrait, it expresses her beautiful features and unique fashion I should say. It's no wonder Marie found her attractive!

Just look into those crystal ocean eyes and that warm milky complexion! You feel like diving into those eyes!

In this last picture, painted by Vigée Le Brun, Madame Gabrielle was already in the exile. It was painted in 1793, near her death date.
