I finished reading an old biography about Anna Ivanonva titled A Forgotten Empress by Mina Curtiss. She was Peter the Great's niece and reigned in her own right. There are few books about Anna in English so it was an interesting read. I wasn't too familiar with Russian history between Peter and Catherine the Great so it filled in the gap.
This book was published in 1974 so you'll have to go through your local library.

I don't know much about her, only that she was overthrown by Peter during the Strelitz battle.

I do think the circumstances and the work undertaken were not quite the same as it was in Zaamdan, where he actually worked in the same conditions as other workers for several days, his identity being discovered later on. He travelled to England after he visited Holland, and I think at that time he did so under his real identity, and therefore could not go and work amongst the workmen.

Just wanted to quote an extract from Brain Chaninov's "History Of Russia" which reminded me of an old unresolved quarrel with the above typical Ludy like bold afirmation! :)

"Pierre séjourna huit jours à début de l'année suivante il se rendit en Angleterre et y véçut près de 4 mois, travaillant comme charpentier dans les chantiers maritimes à Deptford."(à côté de Tilbury)

Il semble que ce soit surtout en Angleterre que le jeune Tzar acquit ses connaissances de la construction navale....
