M-E & Fersen Un Incontro Romantico?

http://www.madamedepompadour.com/_m_antonietta_fersen/

This site is mostly in Italian and French with tiny bit English. There are many things here but I cannot say if this site is any good.

There is also a link to Madame De Pompadour.

Thank you, melly. Sounds interesting, indeed... but so romantic, once again ! I just can't keep my hair on when I write Marie Antoinette's last letter put in reference to Fersen !

I had friends, thinking I'll be separeated from them forever and their sufferings is one of the greatest regrets I would die with. May they know at least that, till the very end, I would have thought of them.

Do people need glasses ? "friends, them, their, them", the queen wrote. Not "lover, him, his, him". Being a generous heart, at the very end, Marie Antoinette thought of all those she loved, and who loved her... so many people !

People who refer this quotation to Fersen only are so selfish...

O mon Dieu, I get ill when people think she meant only Fersen with that line. She had so many friends, people who had tried to help her even in the Conciergerie, such as Rosalie, and the "red carnation" baron. She was probably referring mostly to the Polignacs. She was so upset over being parted from Gabrielle, over her friend being sick and exiled, she could not mention her name.

Indeed, Therese... and this princess de Hesse-Darmstadt, who tried to save her... She kept pictures of her and her sister, together with this poor princess de Lamballe, untill she was brought to the conciergerie. They opened this package during her trial.

Chalon wrote that the heart of our queen was so big it could countain so many affections.............

Indeed. That is a moving scene in Vidal's "Trianon" when the portraits of her friends are shown to her at the trial.

Chalon is right, she had great heart.

You can see this scene in "l'Autrichienne", the movie by Granier-Deferre. Ute Lemper is so touching... and even Herman seems a little bit troubled when he hears "it is a portrait of the princess de Lamballe"... with this so slight and so sweet Autrichian accent...
