Post Male friends
Everybody knows that Axel von Fersen, Artois and Vaudreuil were Marie Antoinette's friends. But what about the rest?

- Prince de Ligne (a very good site of him: http://www.princechjdeligne.be/ )

- Duc de Coigny (I don't know anything about him)

- Prince de Esterházy ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esterhazy )
Was he Prince Nikolaus Esterházy (1714-1790) or Prince Anton (1738-1794) or Prince Nikolaus II (1765-1833)??

- Duke of Devonshire (I read that he, as english ambassador in Paris, was invited to the Trianon some times...)

Do you know anyone more? I don't know about the Princes de Conti and Condé...

You can add Besenval, Guines and Lauzun (at the beginning for him...)

Not at the beginning Lauzun formed part of the Marie-Antoinette's friends . But one day he declared his love to her in a fast and dared way, Marie-Antoinette not having appreciated this audacity.
And since Lauzun moved away from Marie-Antoinette, and became one of her enemies during the revolution...
But at the beginning they were friendly. :D

Yes isn't he the one she told she would not inform the king of his treachery if he took it back? (Or something like that lol)

Yes she said something like that to him indeed... that he was to be happy that she does not say anything about it to the King... :D

ANd about the Duc de Coigny? I think that Marie ANtoinette liked him very much, but I don't know details about him and about their relationship...

Yes I have the same questions Jules de Polignac... the relations between Marie-Antoinette and Coigny are practically not developed... We know just that they were good friendly... :?

Didn't the friendship end the same way as the one with Lauzun?

I do not know... But those that I know who remained faithful to Marie-Antoinette, are Besenval, Ligne and Esterhazy :D

Besenval is supposed to have declared his love to the queen too, isn't he ? He had a temporary disgrace, and, then, came back in favour.

Yes indeed Pim!
Besenval also was attracted by the Queen, but he had more tact than Lauzun.
But in his memories Besenval does not speak about this episode...it's strange no!?
Their relation was degraded during a moment, Besenval thinking that other person compromised him near the Queen...but after their relation improved :D

My understanding is that Coigny was having an affair with Princess Guemenee, who was at the center of a clique of young people (mostly men) in Paris. Antoinette often visited Guemenee's house -- probably because she was bored and enjoyed being around young men (just my opinion). This is the house where the gambling took place, and the friends which Antoinette's brother scolded her about. I don't know about Coigny's relationship with Antoinette... I'd be interested if anyone knows about that.

We know few things about the relations between Marie-Antoinette and Coigny... except that they were friendly... Indeed Marie-Antoinette loved much the people of her age! :D
