Indeed it's strange...but I don't believe that this woman is related to Jeanne de la Motte...I never read that.... :?

Here is artist-historian George Stuart's impression of Pompadour with Louis XV.
These two sculptures are exhibited together.
Louis is serving Pompadour tea. What a guy!

Try http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer, they usually have Doctor Who episodes.

I have seen the episode since then, I don't care for it as much as I did, I don't think Sophia Myles is right as Pompadour. Someone with a literally perfect face could play her only.

She looks a little like la Reine, no? Big eyes, luscious lips, although I suppose all women in 18th century portraits looked like that!

Can anyone recommend a good biography of Madame de Pompadour? I've been interested in reading about her for a while now, but cannot decide which book to buy. Thanks :)

This the most reviewed one on Amazon, but there are others that were found on the search too.

What LC meant to write was "difficulty". In French the word "mal", which he had in mind, means both "difficulty" and "evil" depending on the context.
