Post subject:  Maria Teresa

As you know Marie Antoinette was the great Empress Marie Therese's daughter. To know better the lifestyle of Marie Antoinette after leaving for France, we must have a good knowledge about the Austrian lifestyle and her tradition, politics, court and the relationship that it had with the foreign countries. If you wanted to analyze this concept we must inform about the "entourage" of this queen and her austrian origin where there are the answers to our questions.
For this reason I inform of some biographies about Marie Therese, Louis XV/XVI and other important characters of this period.
And you? Have you read other biographies besides Marie Antoinette's biographies??
I wait for your reply. :D

I'm curious to hear what you think about her. I don't know wether you spoke of this in the past, but I haven't found posts about it, so I 'll try writing here.
She is a woman who intrigues me very much, and for whom I have discording feelings. On one side, I greatly admire her, because she was a great empress, and she was able to face the attacks of many other European countries when she was so young! But, on the other side, being so attached to MA, I can't help being quite annoyed with how she treated her daughter. She used all the typical psychological tricks to make her feel guilty, so that MA followed her advice; sometimes it was excellent advice, of course, but some other times it was very damaging, like when she tried to force her to support Austria's interests through and through. But then I also understand that a woman in her situation had to care about her country even more than about her children...
So, in the end: what do you think?

Rosalie, I agree with you. But i also think that her mother used these tactics for the soul benefit of MA. Because in her position when she was receiving the advice from her mother, she didn't have many friends at all. So in a sense if she had listened to her mother she wouldn't have had all of the problems, with being an outcast at court. For that time anyway.

Life was tough then, you had to be harsh to your children, and teach them to tough.

I suppose it's better than them trying to be your friend like the mother in Mean Girls. This is the prime example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCWiPDzESsM. :|

Yes, I also understand the difficulty of being in Maria Theresa's situation: she wasn't just a simple mother, but a ruler, so to her MA was not only a daughter, but also a way to build her politics...
