Post subject:  Marie Antoinette's children

Did Marie Antoinette had a favorite son? It is said that she loved more her third son, the dauphin. I think that Sophie-Beatrix lived only one year, so, the Queen didn't knew her son at all.

I think she loved all her children equally. It was reported by Lamballe, when her son's spine was crooked and suffered from his disease, she wtached him struggling to eat and Marie cried heavily and didn't even eat.

The children meant so much to her, she was willing to die for them and never risked a situation where it meant her children's life.

Yes, I also think she loved all her children. The four of them, even baby Sophie. When this little girl died, she wrote to Elisabeth to come and mourn with her for her "dear little angel". To someone who did not understand her sorrow, she answered that Sophie would have been a friend for her.

When Joseph died, she fell at Louis' knees, without strengths, full of tears, desparate.

A mother is a mother... She was a Queen, but she was a mother as well!!

In Wikipedia, Marie Antoinette is reported to said, to her baby Marie-Thérèse-Charlotte: «you are not what they wanted, but we will love none the less. A son would have belonged to the State; you shall be mine, and have all my care; you shall share in my happiness and soften my sorrows.»

The Dauphin made the ministers and all the french people happy, because finally Louis XVI had an heir!

Indeed, Jules ! I think this sentence is quoted from madame Campan's souvenirs. Antoinette loved this poor little Joseph tenderly. It must be terrible to see your own child become seriously ill and weaker and weaker while you can't do anything for helping ! Even if king and queen...

My avatar represents the second Dauphin. Marie Antoinette suffered a lot to with this son. In her last days, the Queen saw her son with revolutionary clothes, singing revolutionary songs... Poor Queen!!

They had gone down very low! The revolutionaires should have been more humans! Release the royal family, sending them to the exile...And that would be better for the revolution. Marie Antoinette is a martir of the revolution!

I agree with you ! I dream of this uchronie so often... But that would be too dangerous for young revolution to keep royals alive, alas ! Politics has no heart !

Louis was gone, but not his brothers, cousins...Provence, Artois, even the Kings of Spain could reclaime the trone (even if Phillip V renunced to the french trone)...There's allways an hier! The revolutionaires didn't extinct the royals!!

You are completely right ! But I guess Louis and Antoinette in exile would be too dangerous for this new republic that was not yet legitimated in the eyes of old Europe. I think revolutionaries would never let them go. Remember they wanted the emigres to come back too. Provence was not allowed to leave France. He flew away.

The queen loved all of her children equally. Even when you love equally, sometimes you have more of a rapport with a certain child. Little Charles was just like Antoinette herself as a small girl, except that he was a small boy. What was done to him was pure malice, for there were other heirs to the throne. It had nothing to do with politics. It was pure satanic hatred to treat a little boy in such a vile manner!

They called the king's children "the little wolves". Marie-Antoinette was "the she-wolf". They wrote that they were going to kill "the little wolves", poor Antoinette saw it on walls in the temple.

Yes, she saw it and so did the children, the words, "Strangle the cubs." There is something especially demonic about deliberately provoking dread and fear in children.
