I will try to get Chantal Thomas' book tomorrow or Monday and it won't take me long to read it. I don't know, Pimprenelle, what we could discuss in the meantime. Is there any particular book we have all read already? I must say Andre Castelot was sometimes helpful to me because of the details he includes even if his overall tone is rather perjorative of the queen.

As usually, Therese, I agree with you ! A lot of details and precisions... but the general tone of a good republican. I must add that I read "Madame Royale", and that Castelot made mistakes (Valmont for Vermond osbtetrician for instance). So... in which way can we rely on his huge precision ?

Now... I must admit I read his bio of Antoinette some years ago... it's not so fresh in my memory !

I think I will order "Trianon" finally, for amazon sent me yesterday 2 books. I'm still waiting for one... my favorite, of course ! They are so slong and not serious... The best solution would be to find "Trianon" on alapage. This is a wonderful site !

Yes, it has been some years since I read Castelot, too, but I agree with your assessment of him. I never even heard of his book on Madame Royale until recently. I don't think it is available in English.

Enjoy your new books!

Ladies I have opened the discussion topic for "Farewell, My Queen". I know it's not quite May yet but it seems like we should strike while the iron is hot for this discussion. Feel free to get started early if you wish.

I have posted an invitation at the yahoo group Images of Marie Antoinette for others to join us, so we may yet expand our reading circle :)
