Post music disappoinment
Am I the only person disappointed in Coppola´s choise of music in her Marie-Antoinette movie? I don´t mind that she used modern music only her choises. What would you members have wanted? Give your suggestions!
Personally I wanted to hear Dancing Queen with ABBA; Upside Down with Diana Ross; Top of The World with The Carpenters; Ain´t Nobody Home with B.B King (refering to the fact that Louis XVI was mostly out hunting); Always On My Mind with Elvis Presley; The Look, Dressed For Success, Listen To Your Heart with Roxette; He Made A Woman Out Of Me with Bobbie Gentry (refering to Axel von Fersen); I Love Rock ´N Roll with Joan Jett & The Blackhearts; The Power Of Love with Jennifer Rush; Something To Talk About with Bonnie Raitt among other songs.

I hate it! :angry5:
I love classic music and I think her choice should have been music that can match M.A.s time.

I also own the soundtrack. Some tracks I like, others not so much. The 2nd disc has more classic theme music.

It was somewhat disturbing to have the modern music but I think it made the movie more appealing for a wider audience. I own the soundtrack as well and there is quite a bit of classical on it. The idea of the modern music reminded us these monarchs were teenagers and helped reinforce the idea that alot of their mistakes were inexperience rather than cruelness as they have historically been portrayed. I think the Cure playing as they descended the steps as the new King and Queen was awesome.

I liked the scene when Marie Antoinette and her friends run down the stairs while "Ceremony" is playing to watch the sun rise.

Post Re: music disappointment
I have loved the Cure for ,...some 28 years now. I really was pleasantly surprised by the music in her film. The first time I saw a trailer for this move (teaser, age of consent), (disappointed that song was not in the movie, or on the soundtrack) well first my ears perked up, and what did my eyes see? A beautiful carriage pulling up to Versailles. well, I was enamored on multiple levels. Having Souxie Soux singing Hong Kong Garden in the masked ball scene was a true Baroque surprise, a folly. so perfect and unexpected. then I loved the addition of Aphrodisiac, as it sounds so french the beat she keeps with her voice. The only song I constantly skip is "Fools rush in" I knew that she had modeled her Fersen on Adam Ant the second I saw him. brilliant. I also loved the old punkers in the cast, Maryanne Faithful, Steve Coogan, and the one who plays the smaller aunt. There are reasons she picked this music. The teenage thing is good, and what she says,,, however a lot of the corner piece songs are nearly thirty years old now...or of a genere that is nearly thirty years old. All for what she says, but I think she was actually saluting her favorites...truly, and trust me ther are alot of songs in the world, but just because the lyrics may seem right, doesn't mean they fit in. When they were filming that movie, 80's punk and new wave music was constantly playing. anyway have you ever watched any Adam Ant videos? Well that was a movement called Neo romantic, which was a salute to the 18th century. also, that was a true music revolution, taking music back from the big corporate producers, getting away from the drivel and Disco. other wise you would never have heard Kurt Cobain, or any other young talented people or indie groups, there were only the huge and over produced. So any coorporate, "Stadium rock" or disco ...was not in the film. and I thought that was really cool.

Wow?
I think it would be fair to say, that Sofia did what she thought was right.
and as we are NOT professional movies critics, I would prefer we stop dogging on her artistic vision.

She did say she was making an artistic film, not a historical epic!
