Oh Gott ! Poor girl... I don't mean she is not a good actress, she played a wonderful Lux Lisbon in VS. Unfortunately, she still played Lux Lisbon while interpreting Marie Antoinette...

However, I don't think it was her fault. She did her job and followed her director's indications. Sofia did wrong, in wanting so hard to make a modern American teen out of Marie Antoinette.

This was a completely wrong thing to do. When we try to understand Marie Antoinette's psychology, we have to put ourselves into her shoes, and not the reverse situation. It is so complicated... How could we measure how much Maria Antonia von Habsburg Lothringen was not as any human being of her time... a fortiori not as any one of our time !

She was born an archduchess of Austria, this so ancient empire, and raised to be queen somewhere, she actually became the queen of France, this so mythical country. And, then, she happened to have this so peculiar fate...

In no way was Marie Antoinette a girl like you and me !

 When I saw the title, I immediately imagined your answer Pim

I think that Dunst did not have the grace, the dignity and the majesty of Marie-Antoinette…she had the beauty but it is all (yes Pim! ), and it was not the same beauty…
And then Coppola did not put Dunst in the best possible situations to make her play Marie-Antoinette :?

ah, I sorta agree with the two of you.

I think there are a few other people who could have done a better job. Oh well, I enjoyed the movie nonetheless. :D

I Think that Dunst is too young to play very well Marie-Antoinette : this is a very hard person... :D

Kirsten Dunst was too old for playing little Antonia and too young for mature queen.

Exact

She did not seem to be 15 years old at the beginning of film... But she does not have enough professional experience to play a character as complex as Marie-Antoinette. :D

Yes, I quite agree. They could have gotten someone to play the 15 year old. But she did look like she was 16 or 17, but not 14 and 15.

I think Dunst looked like an adult making grimaces in order to look like a child. Pathetic...

Kirsten Dunst maybe wasn't the perfect match to play Marie Antoinette, but it would be quite difficult to pick up a girl/woman who is young and old at the same time...
I think Kirsten is a talented actress and her role as Marie Antoinette wasn't so bad.

If you think that Kirsten wasn't good at the movie, who would you chose to play Marie Antoinette?
