There is a new film in French about the escape of the royal family and the capture at Varennes, from the King's point of view.

This film was first shown on French TV about a year ago now. There are a number of comments on a thread on the French forum at that time. The woman who played Marie Antoinette was particularly pleasing. There are a few crying historical inaccuracies but generally it is pretty good as the scenario was overseen by the historian and Louis XVI biographer, JC Petitfils. It shows Louis XVI and the royal family in a more sympathetic light. I particularly liked watching the Queen gradually recovering her spirits and throwing chicken bones out of the carriage window whilst picnicking and talking to Barnave!

That is good to know. I am glad that Petitfils was involved.

this is an excellant film of the royal families "flight to varennes" the king and queen have been well cast. the queen is played by estelle skornik who was the girl in the renault cleo adverts on uk tv about ten years ago. you can watch all 5 episodes on "dailymotion.com it is in french but i am sure you are all aware of the events so it is easy to follow even if you dont understand french.
