L'Autrichienne is a wonderful, a heartbreaking movie made by Granier Deferre, with the help of historians. The script relies on true events only. When enter the conciergerie with Marie Antoinette in the middle of the night, and meet her gards and Rosalie. We share her detention, till her trial.

Almost all the lines are accurate quotations, especially those from Marie Antoinette's trial.

The actress, Ute Lemper, is just... fascinating. She plays with charm and dignity all together, as Marie Antoinette really was. So strong and so fragile in the same time...

And, being a German, she has this slight germanic accent... so sweet... and so realistic. When she comes back in her cell, she prays in German. And this makes me cry.

The historian Castelot took part in this film, which is thus very just historically… and it is rare! The lawsuit of the queen is very real

This movie is in French only. However, the dialogues being historically correct, it's not so uneasy to understand ! You can her Marie Antoinette's replies on trial.

It would be possible to follow the dialogues... since most of them are actual quotations ! You have these in English in your biographies, guys ! :D

Anyway... it is also interesting for the atmospheres, the pictures, the way Marie Antoinette's detention is portrayed, with this darkness, this contant humidity... you find yourself with her in her cell...

I've been looking for "L'Autrichienne" forever.
Even Ebay doesn't deliver.
Found it on a French dvd site the other day...only to be stopped by the fact that they don't deliver to the UK
You'd think I'd give up...but no, i'm stilll hoping :D
