Post marie antoinette and the oscars.
Coppola's Marie Antoinette is up for Best Achievement in Costume Design at the Oscars next week. Do you think the film will win? I personally think it should, especially after watching the making-of featurette on the DVD. It gave some really interesting insight into why they designed the costumes with so many bright colors and how the color schemes changed throughout the course of the film.

Milena Canonero is a wonderful artist, indeed. But many costums designers consider she did better for Barry Lyndon, and even for The Affair of the Necklace.

For sure the artist was better directed ! Those directors never asked her for a fuschia dress... :?

Brava, Pimprenelle chérie!
I got myself nearly sick last summer in Paris, with MA specialities, even in some book covers, this fuchsia, a real commercial marketing design label for that film, nothing else, a real brand for Marie Antoinette, La Reine de France et Navarre, like she would have been a cola bottle or a soap! Please look all close enough for MA:s real costumes, there you can see the dramatic line in itself, through years her colours are changing, fabrics, ornaments, it is all there already. As for the oscars, well, we all know that they are academy awards and that is all. They are not the ultimate truth about anything.

However, perhaps the costumes were beautiful, but how accurate?

i thought the costumes were beautiful, definitley the good thing about the movie. it'd be good for the costume designer to get some recognition.

Its sad the the only thing letting the movie hang on is the costumes but they were pretty good but the zippers just made me laugh and did anyone notice in the scene with all her shoes you see a pair Converses

I am a hopeless idealist, I always think there will be better in the future.
And the prices (if they are needed anyway) will not go with the commercial purposes only.

i'm not standing up for it, but the converse thing was part of the "rock 'n' roll queen" thing Sofia Copola was going for. i read about that a bunch of times.... you know, goes along with the music used in the dance scenes.
