Just curious to see which room of hers most inspires you.
I know for me it is her boudoir at Fontainebleau, with its gorgeous mother-of-pearl inlaid furniture, arabesque walls, and cloud painted ceiling, and also the meridienne at Versailles (so small, sweet, and perfect!)

I look forward to seeing your responses! :)

To my mind I like very much the "Cabinet Doré" and "La Méridienne", where Marie-Antoinette smelled herself very well and where the constraints of court were less.

I'm seeing Marie-Antoinette in these room singing duet of Grétry with Vigée-Lebrun :)

I have a special tenderness for her sleeping room in Trianon, as it was in the first years, with the first bed. I imagine how sweet it must be for her to wake up there, with this view on her little temple of love, and the sound of the birds singing in the garden...

What a good question.

I am going to agree with you Pim. The view to the gardens does it for me every time.

My favorite room is the Cabinet Doré. But I like the sleeping room of Versailles too. To tell the truth, I like all the rooms of Marie-Antoinette, because I simply adore her style and her tastes.

Her bedchamber at Versailles, definetely. I just love that bed. And I was wondering, did they really ruin the whole room for the final shot in the 2006 movie? I know they were allowed to use all the room in the palace, but were they allowed to ransack them?

The bedroom shown in the movie is a fake, very well imitated, rebuilt in studios.

The same for the Méridienne and the Cabinet Doré.

No, I think it was at the Hotel de Subois in Paris or whatever it's called.

Here's a video I found on youtube showing the Queen's boudoir at the petit trianon:

It shows the mirrors that move in front of the windows, affording her privacy. This is now my favorite room of her's; it is perfect! :D

Wow, what an interesting feature! How were they operated? Alas, the video is in French.

The mirrors were lifted up by turning a delicate crank; presumably the mechanics are hidden in the floors and the walls. Glad you enjoyed it!

Everyone should get "The Private Realm of Marie Antoinette." It has great pictures of her Petite Apartments at Versailles, also Le Hameu and Petit Trianon.
