Wow, what a great picture! Isn't this the Ball where Louis XV dressed up as a tree (on the far right), and where he met Madame Pompadour?

Have you noticed the little baskets of flowers the principal ladies in white are carrying? This ball has some significance, I will try and find where I saw this before.

Indeed, baron, this is a very important ball. I did some research and this is the famous "Yew Tree Ball" given in honor of Louis XV's marriage to Maria Leczinska in 1745. This is where Louis XV met his famous mistress, Madame de Pompadour. See here for more information: ... lballo.htm

Actually, this ball was given in honor of Louis XV's eldest son marriage, the Dauphin Louis (1729-1765), to Maria-Theresa-Raffaela of Spain, daughter of king Philippe V.

They figure one of the couple in white clothes on the above engraving.

The bride was to die on the 22th of July 1746.

What a magnificent event! I want to do an event like this someday! Oh, it does remind me of the Phantom of the Opera's "Masquerade" piece.
