So you were in Paris? :)

How was it?

What else did you see?

Un grand bonjour cher baron 8)

I had to go on a business trip last Friday. I had no idea until Thursday that I would have to go on a visit to our regional offices in Paris. So everything came quite unexpectedly and in a hurry.

A colleague and I decided then to stay there for one more day (on Saturday). We stayed at the hotel Banke, a good hotel close to the Opera Garnier and the shopping centres on Bd Haussman (with plenty of Japanese Buses everywhere :D )

I knew that it would make no sense to go to Versailles because of the crowds there... So we went right away to the Trianon gate on Saturday afternoon.
And the Hamlet with its garden was just like a dream :)

I would have loved to see the 18th century back in fashion exhibition or one of the guided tours but we were short of time, since we had to go back home on Sunday morning :(

Next time, however, I will try to arrange something beforehand. I have heard there are apparently special tours in the evening (when one can see private apartments and other places) that are not shown to regular visitors. Something along these lines...

Now that I am back home again there is nothing more left than just a couple of pics to relive my memories - what a shame!

You lucky guy!
Herzliche Grüße aus Stuttgart

There are indeed private tours of the private appartments every day in the summer and these are even bookable on Internet! Its a nice way of getting away from the crowds. :) Also of seeing the intimacy of the sovereigns, where they preferred to live. I'm always surprized how small these rooms are!

As for the walk in the Queen's gardens on a summer day, its' enchanting. I especially love to go in the late afternoon, when all the tourists have left and you have them almost to yourself!

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll be able to visit them again soon!! :)

Here are a couple of wonderful books about Le Petit Trianon and Le Hameau de la Reine:

This one was printed in 1998 and contains reproductions of watercolours of the Petit Trianon in the Biblioteca Estenese, Modena. Publisher: Alain de Gourcuff Editeur.

Unfortunately, the copy I found on eBay had a damaged dust jacket, but the illustrations and plans were worth it. It contains plans of all the levels of the Petit Trianon as well as plans of other buildings in the grounds.

I know that book from somewhere, it is indeed very nice!

It is reassuring to see how little Le petit Trianon has changed, even the poplars to the left of the photo are still there, or at least their successors!

I was there in 2008 and while disappointed that it was closed to the public, I was very happy that the reason for the closure was renovations. I took a photo of the notice detailing the renovation plans. I'm not sure how legible it will be, but I'll post it. The plans of the entresol and private apartments are relatively clear.

Went to Versailles some days ago, but didn't go to the gardens. Shame on me! We were a large group and it was raining...democracy won.

Here some pictures from my trip to Trianon last week. Yeah!
I hope I do not post pictures that someone else already has posted - but I have chosen the ones that I do not recall to have seen in this forum.

The picture of the Grotto... I must admit that I was i bit confused. I always thought that the Grotto was the huge rockformation next to Belvedere. (Where Marie Antoinette supposedly were sitting on October 5th 1789). But now I realise that the Grotto actually is called THE ROCK - and the Grotto is another place, very close to the rock though. I took a picture of it, but it was so dark in there, so you can hardly see what it is. It is hidden away behind bushes, and there is carved a little place to sit - and she could sit there in solitude, listening to the running water. Amazing!! ; )

Anyone knows anything more about this??
