Hello, everyone! I am wondering if the black and white checkerboard floor tiles that are so often seen in pictures of the Chateau de Versailles were there in the time of Marie Antoinette or if they were introduced later. Also, are they marble or some other type of stone?

Thank you so much for any help you might provide!

The ground floor landing of the Queens staircase is done in the black and white marble tiles... Charles Le Brun did this in the 1680's.

Thank you, Lilly! Would it be safe to assume that those on the landings of the Escalier des Princes and in the Galeries de Pierre are from that same time period?
