Hi, everyone! In several books I've been reading in my research about life at Versailles, I've come across such phrases as "during the court's season" or "when the court had returned for the new season," etc. Would you have any ideas as to how long the usual court season lasted, when it started, when it ended, etc.? I'm imagining that the court season must have been during the late fall, winter, and early spring, since so many of the courtiers were away with their regiments and/or their own estates during the summer. Am I on the right track, or am I way off the rocker on this assumption?

Thanks, my friends!

P.S. I told you all when I first came on board the forum that I had many questions for you! I hope I'm not becoming the village pest... :)

I think that the Court went to Fontainebleau in the Fall....................

Thank you, Lilly! Do you suppose there were scheduled calendar times for heading to Fontainebleau and returning to Versailles? Or did it all just depend on whenever the king decided he wanted to head out there, and everyone followed, then headed back to Versailles when he chose to do so?

Also, if anyone happens to have a general (or specific) idea of what events at Versailles were traditionally held at what times of year--maybe a sort of court life calendar--that would be very helpful!

Hello, everyone! May I ask you if you happen to know any details as to the timing of the Queen's Ball at Versailles--what days it fell on, which months, what hours, etc.? I understand Marie-Antoinette revived the custom of the Queen's Ball, but have so far found little information about it.

Thank you!
