Uhm, The video was of Marie Antoinette's room...

Pompadours rooms were connected with Louis' through a staircase that is still in place.

Wait are you saying there never was one or that now its a major staircase? Beacuse I read a biography on he and it said that she became very pious and sealed up a connecting staircase.

She couldn't have sealed up the Degre du Roi, or the semicirculaire, because it was necessary. The semi circulaire accessed her lower apartments. Whe she moved completely upstairs, servants had to have acess to her. I think she could've locked the door a few times, not being able to see it up.

Thanks for that bit of information, I had always thought there was a secret staircase to her rooms as well.

It's not necessarily secret. It was Mesdames Tantes preffered way to attend the Kings awakening and reposing. :D

It was built so that Louis XIV could acess the Illegitmate, children and visit them.

Then used by Pompadour to go to the kings apartments from her attic or ground floor apartments, or to her ground floor from her attic floor. :]

During the days of DuBarry, the king used it to go to the lower apartments of his daughters, and to approve the wardrobe choices of DuBarry.

Louis XVI used it to visit his dowdy aunts, and still they used it to attend the kings functions. Also used it and the degre du roi to access the premier etage.

Are there only certain times of the year when a regular person (like me on vacation with my family) can visit Versailles? When a regular person visits do they get to walk in MA's rooms and see her bed? Also, can people visit the Petit Trianon? I have found some sites on the internet but they are in French!

Axelrocksmyworld, I would recommend that you look through some of the Versailles threads here. For instance, 'For that that have visited Versailles'.

I agree you should look at the "People who have visited Versailles" thread, Axelrocksmyworld, but to quickly answer your questions- Versailles is open year round, but its hours during the low season are more limited than those during the high season (summer). The Queen's bedroom is included as one of the main elements of the tour of the chateau and is available to anyone who pays to enter. The Petit Trianon recently reopened after restoration. You can visit it for the cost of a few extra euros. You can also visit the Grand Trianon (which I believe is now mostly Napoleonic?) and Marie Antoinette's hamlet, though you can't go inside the buildings there.

To le comte'; I'm unable to straighten out all these secret doors and the 'dupe' plus the other end on Louis's side. I visited Versailles before the restoration had really gotten underway and I'm afraid I may be a little disoriented. Do you recommend a site for me to visit?

I love all these contributions of yours and hope you'll continue making them.
Merci,
Susana

I took this photo of the hidden door leading from the Chambre de la Reine to the private apartments.
