Post Ludwig II's Palace of Herrenchiemsee...Bavarian Versailles
I was there yesterday.
This Palace, modelled on Versailles and located on a lovely island, is truly magnificent.

Lateral wings - to make it look exactly like Versailles - were planned, but due to financial problems, the project was dropped.

The Hall of Mirrors is stunning...it was built even bigger than the original one in Versailles.

Look at all the gold in the bedrooms!
The state staircase, is that based on the Ambassador staricase that was at Versailles?

York74, that's amazing castle! Thanks for sharing it with us. I'd like to go there and see it. Photos looked wonderful and it really looks like Versailles (Versailles is only bigger ;))

Have you seen the 1972 biopic "Ludwig" directed by Luchino Visconti?
I suggest you to watch it...it's a great epic masterpiece filmed in the real palaces of the king.

Avoid the edited version...look for the DVD with the restored version!
