I've always found it interesting that I am from St. Louis, Missouri, a city with such obvious French royal ties. I suppose if I could not have been fortunate enough to be born in Paris, the best option in America would be a city named after Louis XVI's noble predecessor, the Saint. Even more ironic, my city was incorporated in 1764, the year of birth of Madame Elisabeth, whom I've always had the deepest interest in.

Welcome, Genevieve! Yes, most people do not realize that good ol' St. Louis is named for le roi-martyr, Louis XVI. You are interested in Madame Elisabeth?? Great!!!! (I love her.)

Actually, St. Louis was named after Louis IX, Saint Louis. But he was Louis XVI's predecessor, nonetheless.

Yes, I love Elisabeth too. I'm very glad to see another person who appreciates this remarkable woman.

That's right, Genevieve! It is Louisville, Kentucky that is named for Louis XVI!! (Oh, I get them mixed up, the towns, not the kings! Forgive me, citizens of St Louis!!)

And today is Marie-Antoinette's name-day! (June 13, Saint Anthony) that is fortuitous!

Yes, she celebrated today all of her life as her "feast-day;" it is referred to in the correspondence with her mother. Louis XVI's name-day was August 25, the feast of Saint Louis, two days after his birthday (he was given the exact name of the medieval king, Louis-Auguste.)

I'm from free soil, east of the Alleghenies.
Or is today's parlance - one of America's blue states.

Post Greetings from Yankeeland and some more thoughts on ...Yanks
Well dear Therese, from the vantage point of Dixie, I do indeed live in the heart of Yankeeland. But I must say that is not my favored baseball cap.

However, I must say Yankee is an interesting term though.

When the boys from 'Bama "In the heart of Dixie" reached Belleau Wood and Chateau Tierry in 1918, the song of the day "Over There" spoke of them as well with the refrain

The Yanks are coming.

Whenever our men and women serve overseas, our differences and the memory of our most bloodthirsty of all wars (as you might say the War Between the States) is left at the waters edge as America's sons and daughters from Maine to Alabama ALL become Yanks over there.

Have a nice day,

Axel
