It's not actually a novel, it's written in the first person form of Diane's journal.

I confess I took liberties with the issue of Diane de France, to support my belief that she was the daughter of Diane and Henri. Of course, we'll never know for sure.

My sources were many, as so many books have been written about Diane, and I have them all. For the facts of Diane's life I drew from Helen Henderson, Barbara Cartland, Princess Michael of Kent, Jehanne d'Orliac, Philippe Erlanger, and Grace Hart Seely, among others. I expanded on historical facts in my notes. I also used an English translation of the manuscript Diane herself owned, in which her teacher and mentor, Anne de Beaujeu, laid out the very lessons which Diane was taught. And finally, I used her letters.
