Happy New Year to you too!!
Yes, this forum is actually so well-made and works smoothly, it just needs more active users I think!

Post Re: 2013
I ran a large forum for a few years before I ultimately gave it to someone else because my interest in the subject matter had mitigated and I no longer had time for it.

But while I was running the thing, I noticed that sometimes getting old members back was as simple as sending out a mass e-mail. Invent a reason, Happy New Year, the Louis XVI blood test, etc. People who have merely forgotten this place receive a message in their inbox click the link and return to their old stomping grounds.

I know it sounds devious but I genuinely think it could work, particularly at the moment as there are a few active threads at the moment...if this forum has the capability.

But maybe it's too devious. I'm just saying: it was a tried and true method for me.

edit: I seem to be replying to a post that was deleted. Oops. Well. My commentary stands, even if it now looks like a non-sequitar.

Post Re: 2013
We've been struggling with the declining participation for a while now, and this question has been beaten to death. Obviously, the participation ebbs and flows although as far as we are concerned, it has been on a downward tilt for a while.

Forums are difficult to manage in the long run and this one has been on for quite a while now. People move on, their interest in the forum wanes. There are also incompatibilities between members, and these are apt to flare up quickly on an Internet forum -because virtual communication is sometimes seen by many as an outlet for them to vent, or/and because the risk of misunderstanding is much higher than in real life (sarcasm or humour are not easily conveyed). These are common places and apply to any forum on the Internet, and in our case this is pretty much what is boils down to.

There is little that can be done about it, although initiatives from proactive members such as Vive are of great help. After all, as long as we can still enjoy a few rewarding conversations, there is nothing wrong about the participation being a little sluggish. We do not have to be logged in 24/7.

So do not feel disheartened and keep posting, whenever you feel like it.
