Post subject:  Music at Versailles

What kind of music was played at Versailles and other courts in the 18th century? Like when they danced or what operas did they see or just what they listened to for entertainment...? Did any special musician play at Versaille?

Gluck is one opera composer he came to Paris in 1774.
You can read about him here

I believe the first opera by composed by him for Paris was Iphigénie.

Post subject:  Music Played at Versailles

I read that Jean-Philippe Rameau was a rival of Gluck. And Marie Antoinette was a good patron of Gluck's. I remember that something went amiss and Gluck was furious so he went to Marie Antoinette (when she still was the Dauphine) and asked for the opera to be postponed and of course it was. However that didn't mean she was a patron for Gluck strictly, she also was a patron to Rameau. And then whether Gluck or Rameau liked it they began to influence each other's music. I may not the most reliable source, I hope this will help. :)

Post subject:  You're Welcome

You're welcome. I thrive on historical drama. i.e. Roman politics. Such as Casear was considered a pretty boy you could say and this totally crushed Ciecro, since Ciecro was used to having power. :)
