I also like that fashion style. It remembers me the ages of Jane Austen. But I understand you- ancien régime style is more... emphatic and emotional.

Post Re: The 18th century dresses.
How completely wonderful is all of this? I saw an exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum in New York about 18th century French fashion and they had all of the mannequins wearing the clothing in rooms that were decorated with antiques from the period. It was really interesting, but I can't remember if all of the costumes were real or not. Anyway, it was very nice. Does anyone have any pictures of 18th century Austrian/Viennese dresses? I would love to see some of them, too.

Hopefully,
Ray

I found a link it is not German but it is an 18th century dress none the less and you can zoom in to see the fabric up close. :)

Thank you so much. That is the kind of dress I envisioned her in as a young lady in Vienna. Thank you so much as well for those videos of 18th century dancing. I just can't get over them!

So Gratefully,
Ray

I found an interesting web site about ladies fashion plates that has a few engravings from the 18th century...very interesting to see the evolution of women's fashion! :angel8:

A good website to see an extensive time line of real historical garments is here. Obviously we're most interested in the 1750-99 section, but if anyone is interested in other eras there are lots of good pieces.

Also, Ray, the exhibit I'm (almost positive) you saw at the Met was "Les Liaisons Dangereuses." Yes, all the costumes displayed were originals (as well as the furniture, the decorative arts, and even the wall panels). Here are a few images from it from the Met website.

It is very simple, I am sure that Versailles doesn’t like it.
I find it cute for every day.
