I think I like the en gaulle dresses best...

I have thought about your interesting question for a while Aurora, and I just can`t decide.

I realise why --- I love them all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really like the beautiful, gentle, flowing simplicity of the later years - but I also love the full-on, over the top, amazing (how they all must have suffered for this brand of beauty....) magnificent creations of the early years.

It would be my idea of heaven to discover a wardrobe full of these/this wonderful style of clothes and try them all on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(with matching hair pieces of course ........) :D

I agree dear Vivienne, it would be a heaven!
I have had my part of it sometimes when performing, but the costumes and wigs were of course a little more moderate than Marie Antoinette's. And no original jewels! (sigh)

This sounds so interesting, Aurora. Would you tell us a little more...

Nothing very special, really. Just concerts with period music. I have a wig made for me in the theatre where I have personal contacts and I bought a costume designed late 18th century-like (and transformed it a little), fake jewels, fan etc. Everything was made so that I could have free movements when playing and moving, so ,for example, I had to cancel the original idea of wearing a heavy corset to have something much lighter. Perhaps we also add some poems (actor) in the future, but as you know life can sometimes be so busy and I cannot concentrate on these projects only. It is a great fun, but the complete costume and wig makes you feel actually sweating.

Thank you for your kind words, dear Vivienne!
I too hesitate between the answers for my favourite dress for Marie Antoinette, by the way. I think the most suitable colours in costumes for her are different kinds of blues, cream, maybe light green also. She is like "Spring" in the colour-analysis with a warm golden touch in hair and blue eyes.

She also loved deep reds and deep violets, didn't she ?
Lie-de-vin, bordeaux, sang-de-boeuf, burgondy... These suits so admirably her delicate complexion...

Oui, pourquoi pas.

I voted for the "en gaulle" style because it represents the Queen's personality so well. That style symbolises her wish to break out from the constraints of court formality. It reprsents her yearning for freedom and genuine friendships - as opposed to the false relationships that inevitably accompany extreme formality.
Esthetically, I love all the styles you submitted for vote. And I love the blue velvet dress. I just love 18th century costumes in general!
My favourite Marie Antoinette dress is the pale blue one she wears on the "a la Rose" portrait displayed on web site banner, on the left.

I voted for en gaulle as well. :D

As you say Merteuil, it best portrays her personal style and character. One can picture her in a simple white dress with sash and a straw hat, picnicing on the lawn of the Trianon overlooking the lake...ahhhhhhh.

Oh, you all are so convincing of your choices  I could not choose now, although I am entirely swept away also by the description and the actual portrait of the Queen in her blue velveteen. Yet the simpler costume reflect her inner essence more, no? I shall have more exposure to her portraits before the vote.

in white/muslim...because it showed how genuine of a person she was, being a queen and all. it also made her look pure and angelic which matches her true being to me.

Could someone post pictures of the gowns in the poll?

It would be very helpful.
