At the beginning Marie-Antoinette could have a bath-tub being able to be moved thanks to casters. There were no really toilets like nowadays.
But thereafter she made some arrange to have a part of bath in the ground floor :D
She liked much cleanliness

Oh yes, Marie Antoinette cared a lot about bathing and being clean. I am in the middle of Belaiche Daninos "les 76 jours de Marie Antoinette à la conciergerie". The author tells us that the queen had been moved from her cell after the carnation plot. Then, she was put into a more horrible one, where she only had cold water for cleaning herself. And it was so humid and so cold in there... poor Antoinette... How could she bear such treatments ?

Is that decadent enough ?

Well... this is Marie Antoinette's reality, I'm afraid !

 pimp: i DID NOT say she was decadent...will i never live it down? i am the decadent one remember:i love chocolate, wine and roses! in america that's decadent>funny as it may seem! i am genuinely interested in the queen or i wouldn't be here and i am not going to change my avatar just to be taken seriously....the book you are reading sounds very good, something that i would enjoy, very detailed! i don't think they publish it here~any facts are fascinating to me! i don't consider a woman bleeding all the way to the chopping block decadent~rather, i admire the bravery she had within her to make it there,i can't even begin to imagine what thoughts were going through her!

It's not your avatar that does not seem serious to me, liliane-delphine, sorry... According to your posts, you seem interested in Marie Antoinette from a superficial viewpoint most of all. Unfortunately, Marie Antoinette's life is not only chocolate triple vanille and perfumes and wonderful flowers and princess dresses...

Now back to the topic. Indeed, Antoinette cared a lot about bathing. She had bathrooms built in Versailles, even if she seemed to have rather bathing in her "tub" (baignoire sabot) that was rolled into her bedroom. No doubt was it warmer this way.

She used all kinds of scented salts and oils, and received massages in a special room next to her bathroom, where she also rested, since water was supposed to transform the inner organs of the body, which needed to get back to their place afterwards.

Chalon notices that Marie Antoinette indeed loved water. She bathed a lot and only drank water. She enjoyed her little lakes and cascades... she was a Scorpio Ascendant Cancer (two times water).

Then, ironically, in the conciergerie, at the end of her so short life, she could not bath any longer, and they gave her a dirty water she could not drink without being sick...

Then, we are all the same ! I am fascinated by Marie Antoinette... every little detail, indeed, as trivial as it may seem, that's it ! How she lived, how she felt pleasure, how she suffered... the rooms she was in, the clothes she wore, the smells surrounding her...
