I've found some images of Marie Antoinette I haven't seen before. I hope you enjoy these. My favorite image is the last link. She looks absolutely stunning and gorgeous in particular. Even though she was quite a pretty lady as we can all see. Please enjoy! :)

Thank you for posting these delightful pictures, dear! I always love seeing new pictures of our queen. The last picture looks a bit like a Le Brun work, but it doesn't really look too much like Antoinette. Are you sure it's her?

You're more than welcome Delicate fleur! My apololgies that is not Marie Antoinette, the lady in the picture is Countess Kinsky. I thought she was Marie Antoinette, the Countess had a rather uncanny resemblance in my mind from afar. Tis' better to share these images than hoard them. :)

I think the 3rd and 4th are 19th century engravings based on contemporary portraits just from the way they look. Apparently the first one is taken from a lost Lebrun. Hopefully someday it will be found!

Of course. Victorian art is rather distinctive, somehow you can tell. The third and fourth image is most likely from the Victorian time period. I knew that I just thought everyone would enjoy it. A lost Lebrun? I have never heard of that! :)

In the second one she is holding up the dauphin to the crowd at the Fête de la Féderation on the 14th July 1790 at the Champ de Mars. She was not at all happy to be there!

What was the Fête de la Féderation in aid of?

It was the first anniversary of the capture of the Bastille fortress, now the National day unfortunately. This was a ceremony set up the Jacobins and other revolutionary factions, and for obvious reasons it was difficult for the Royal family to enthuse about it. Enormous stands were set up on the Champ de Mars, which is below where the Eiffel tower is now. The Fête de la Féderation is now called the "Fête Nationale".

That's not good. Poor Marie Antoinette! That was only the start of her troubles and woe! :(

Why were the royal family required to attend? To show notional support or make it look like the revolutionaries weren't blood thirsty monsters who hadn't killed them immediately?!

yes, they're were supposed to show they supported the revolution...which seems quite absurd, but it was their only possibility to survive. I always get a bit annoyed, in fact, when I read in history books (also school-books) about the King's "duplicity": I mean, if there was a duplicity it was because he had to hide his real feelings

That is so peculiar and cruel that I am too close to not be able to comprehend that. That's horrific! I wouldn't be too pleased if my country tried to rid of the monarchy and then make me play along as if it were a good thing.

I don't like the picture where she helds up the dauphin. He was not a dwarf, was he? That picture is so wrong.
