quote="Délicate fleur"]I asked my partner last night if he knew of it, he knew that orange has a connection with Protestants: in Ireland they used to have the "Orange Marches" where they basically went out and victimised and killed Catholics!! But we do not know of why orange has come to be associated with them. I do know that the Netherlands is associated with the colour orange, a Protestant country.

These Orange Marches take place today in Northern Ireland and indeed in Glasgow in Scotland (its very unfortunate that the politics of Northern Ireland influence society in parts of Scotland and England) but I have NEVER heard of the people participating in these Marches attacking Catholics. Catholics do protest at them certainly, as they are entitled to do, but I think they usually pass peacefully. Its more likely to be the Catholic bystanders jeering/throwing missiles at those walking in the March. I'm no expert though, this is just what I've seen on the news etc. And incidentally have NO interest in religion whatsoever before someone called be biased!!! And isn't anyone entitled to display their faith - be it Catholic, Protestant, Muslim etc without risk of offending others? The link with the colour orange is King William III (I think it was III) of Great Britain, otherwise known as William of Orange (he was from the Netherlands) and he was a Protestant King of a predominately Protestant country and was involved in a campaign against Catholics in Ireland. Correct me if I'm wrong!!![/quote]
Elizibeth I and her brother
Henry VIII
the list goes on, esp in England

I think that this thread is a bit off topic, interesting as it is. :P

Yes I think you're right, although it did stem from Marie Antoinette and the colour orange... :)

Yes, dear, that's often how a good conversation goes.
