Post subject:  Marie Antoinette and the colour Orange?

Hi, for all of you who don't know me my name is Barbara :D
I was reading the topic entitled "You know you love Marie Antoinette..." and one of the points was as follows;
8. You stop wearing orange.
I was wondering if anyone could explain to me why? :D orange is the royal colour of the Netherlands :( Does it have something to do with that?! Now i'm guessing...sorry

Welcome Barbara! :biggrin:

I know that M.A. didn’t like orange color but I doubt it was for some particular reason.
Maybe other members could help. :idea:

Of course Pimpernille or therese would know, but if her hair were an amber blond color, like the color of the vein in the rock Pimpernille showed on one of her threads.... orange would not look very good on her. It could Make her hair look orange too.

I asked my partner last night if he knew of it, he knew that orange has a connection with Protestants: in Ireland they used to have the "Orange Marches" where they basically went out and victimised and killed Catholics!! But we do not know of why orange has come to be associated with them. I do know that the Netherlands is associated with the colour orange, a Protestant country.

http://forum.marie-antoinette.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=497&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=orange&start=15 Here you see Pimprenelle and Louis XVI discussing Antoinette disliking orange and where they read about it.

Yes, they do mention how she had an aversion to orange but no one actually says why she didn't like it. Yes, Thomas and Chalon mention that she suddenly "fell into white" but why the dislike of orange? Purely aesthetic, maybe?

Orange was not really a popular color in those days, anyway.
