I remembered as a child watching the MTV Video Music Awards seeing Madonna dressed herself as Marie Antoinette. I liked the set and costumes on the stage, but it made me cringe to this day to see her performance(even though I didn't know who Marie Antoinette was back then) and her portrayal or perspective of the Queen though she claims she likes MA and says she has much in common with her because they both are a public figure who are often scrutinized and get alot of criticism. Absolutely disgusting!

Another comparison I've heard of is Paris Hilton(of all people), but do you know of any other celebrities who have done the same to further ruin her reputation or is compared to her? Feel free to share or shall I say...vent!

Yes, it is not very nice. Quite crude.

I like Madonna’s performance, even I don’t strictly connect it to M.A. it is clearly that she was a Madonna’s inspiration. However, we must have in mind that Marie Antoinette was a celebrity in the 18th century, not strictly by her will, but I don’t think it bothered her so much before she became more mature. People back than connected her to frivolity, crazy hairstyles, life in luxury without any limits. We must admit that she contributed to that opinion by acting carelessly; she was not that concerned with the people opinion neither she understood how that could become serious. Nowadays, with many movies and biographers, M.A. reputation is constantly improving. However, we must understand that she still represents an icon of the frivolous life of the 18th century and therefore she is an inspiration of the artists who are fascinated with that time. It would be ridiculous to expect that people see her only as a good mother, good, modest wife and the tragic character without seeing the other, jollier side of her life. Nobody will ever see M.A. as a saint (I doubt it will ever be a public opinion), personally I am satisfied when people in their worship (of her) don’t go too far, whatever they think about her.

Yes Marija I agree with you. Although I'm an admirer of Marie Antoinette and would defend her against the kind of people who think she said "let them eat cake" etc., I think we need to remember that she was only human and that no-one is perfect :queen:
