I believe the first image posted in this thread, a copy of which was posted here by Pimprenelle is the image that Madame Royale called the closest image to her mother.

I've read Mme Royale called it "a speaking image of the Queen".

I've also read that it was kept in the room of Madame Royale and that it was pierced by revolutionaries and there is a hole at the bosom of the Queen as depicted in the painting from that piercing.

Do you mean this one, Axel ?

I read this one was the one in Mme Royale's room, the more resembling, she said.

As far as I know, this one was pierced by revolutionaries. Bandes de nazes ! Scoundrels !

It is the one I can't resist...

All the portraits and paintings of the
period are charming, we are lucky there
are so many of MA,
I wonder how many there are.
This one is certainly one of the loveliest

The Revolution brought in a new age, an age
of Empire and military conquest but did it bring in a better world ?

Looking back at the paintings, the furniture, the literature
of the 18th century one can t help thinking
that the Revolution put an end to an age of charm and elegance
the like this world will never see again.

I don't think there is any better way to put it, ParisinJune. So sad that things will never be like that again!

SO true! And so well put. I would add the 18th century Fashions to that, as the Ladies had the opportunity to wear truly wonderfully elegant and feminine Gowns and Dresses. And so Regal....... but of course, a trifle impractical too! Ha......[/i] And what you said about Her eyes......

Indeed......

I find the first portrait posted on this thread the most realistic one and best shows Marie Antoinette as she truly was....extremely beautiful.
