In my opinion, even if Marie Antoinette had been released and gone to Austria, she wouldn't have lived long. I'm actually surprised she made it as long as she did. So frail, with such awful bleeding. I think she was miserable during her last months, which did not help her illness.

This is a very interesting point, Madame, and not one I have ever thought of. Would all the medical help in the world have healed her physical and mental trauma?

Not mental trauma, no. But our modern drugs and treatments could have helped with her illness. She had been through so much, she probably didn't want to live. And if she did, it was only for her dear little children.

I hadn't thought about fibroids. In fact, I had thought that Marie Antoinette was suffering from internal bleeding, from something such as a blood disorder; it hadn't occurred to me that her bleeding was external.

Perhaps she was going through menopause? Otherwise I can't think of any other reason why that she would have an illness of that sort.

Yes, sometimes women go through menopause quite early, particularly if they are experiencing stress (and in Antoinette's case, prolonged).

That would explain it then! :) Thank you Delicate Fleur!

Well I do not know if this is the precise case with Antoinette, unless I was a doctor who examined her.

Quite true Pim, but one has to admit a quite brilliant painter!

Yes he was quite good. I'm not too keen on how he depicted the Queen I must say.

I know that Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome can cause many of the symptoms she had. Especially in a time when no one knew anything about it. It's thought that a lot of women died due to the lack of knowledge. I personally know that when a cyst ruptures, the pain is extremely agonizing!! I remember being at work and out of no where being doubled over in pain trying my best not to scream (didn't do much good.) I was finally able to sit down with a lot of help from others and when I got up to go to the hospital is when I saw there was blood everywhere I had been.
Thankfully with the meds and docs today I don't have as bad a time when one ruptures, but it's still extraordinarily painful. So I can't help but wonder if she could have possibly suffered from this, or this being one of the issues.

My sympathies. I'm sorry you had to suffer through that. I'm glad you have recovered though. It must have been terrifying and painful!
