 Re: cleft chin
well, in many of her beautiful portraits she did have a bit of a cheft chin but in others there is no sign of the feature. if you look at other pictures of the time you will see that many woman had what looks to be a cheft. I would think this is just a "fashion" thing. chefts were big at that moment.

 Re: cleft chin
Was it really a big thing in the 18th C.? Fabulous... in case anybody else I know teases me of my cleft, at least I have that information to back me up. My question is, did MA really have a cleft, or was it painted in on her only because it was the "trend" back then? If so, it suits her very well.

 Re: cleft chin
You really never know, I have a little bit of one. Not huge but it's there. In some pictures it's barely noticable and some it is. It depends on the angle. I just got up and looked in the mirror, tilting my head in different ways each time.

 Re: cleft chin
I think she didn't have one when she was young, but she had when she got a bit plumper, in her thirties. If you look at Vigee-Le Brun portraits painted short before the Revolution, she appears more curvaceous and full (I don't know if it's the right word), which is also normal, considering her pregnancies. After the Revolution and the improsonment she became thinner again, no doubt because of her physical and psycological stress...

 Re: cleft chin
Actually, I believe she did have one. If you look carefully of her picture before she was married off to Louis XVI, the one of her wearing the blue dress. http://marie-antoinette.org/Galleries/P ... its.html#1 It's apparent, but it's a bit more obvious when you gain a little more weight. Mine showed a lot more when I gained several pounds as I got older.

Yes she does. It's genetic.

 Re: cleft chin
Well Madame Tussaud took a wax mask of Loius XVI and Marie Antoinette, the only problem is that her museum and wax figures were damaged by a fire. I don't know if MA's wax-figure survived the fire. Well, the descendents of the Habsburgs typically had unique facial features including a protruding lower lip and chin. If her's was cleft, I don't know

 Re: cleft chin
I would say if there is any evidence it's inconclusive.
