Hello Chocolat, I couldn't get into the link to see the queen's shoe and I have been anxious to see it for a long time. I will try later.

Hello Maggie,

The site appears to be down for maintenance... But it will surely be up later in the day.

BTW when I was in Paris some years ago, I went to the Musée Carnavalet. There you can see "les pantoufles" (slippers) de MA. They were very well-preserved and quite small in size. I'd say size 34 or 35 in Europe

I have found a pic here:

They also have a lock of hair and some dishes that belonged to her. :greetings-waveyellow: :greetings-waveyellow: :greetings-waveyellow:

I'd think there might be many pieces of the clothing of MA about in various collections...Weren't all the Royal possessions locked up by the Revolutionary Government?...Likely sold off with the furnishings from Versailles later?

Most of Marie Antoinette's clothing was destroyed unfortunately.
But there is a video produced by the University of Michigan with a lecture by Caroline Weber, about the style and the dresses the queen was wearing which you may like to see

P.S.: It's a movie of over 1 hour, however... :!:

There may be clothing around that belonged to the Queen, because the custom was to give dresses etc to her maids after use. But of course it these maids didn't specially preserve these dresses, then they would just have fallen apart by now.

Or more likely there was a growing market for second hand clothing of the wealthy. I think I read that in Daniel Rochel's People of Paris and I am sure that the Queen of Fashion mentions Marie Antoinette's clothes were most likely to have been sold. Also, bear in mind textiles were more expensive then the labor to sew the garment and would have been picked apart. This I memorized from the Colonial Williamsburg pattern book. Pathetic? Probably.

Those video's were fascinating. It is quite touching to know that through some way, some people must have cared enough to preserve any item of her's,no matter how small knowing that in years to come it would be a source of fascination to people..
