That's it, precisely, dear Delicate Fleur ! This marvellous description always reminds me of the those wonderful verses Virgilius wrote about queen Dido walking through Carthage among her suite... :D So beautiful this must have been through the galerie des glaces !

I read somewhere she was about 1, 65 m tall, which was pretty much for a woman at that time (people were normally shorter than now). But I confess I can remember where I read it, so maybe someone can correct me!

Thank you. I have always thought that she was much taller because people described her as quite tall. I didn’t consider what that meant in 18th century so I thought she was more than 1.70 m or 1.75 m tall.

I am 1.65m tall!
:)

Striking as a shaft of Artemis our Queen is indeed! I actually took that from the Odyssey, when Helen and Nasuicaa are described.

I don't know all that much about Dido I must say even though I am decently knowledgeable about Greek mythology.

Well, Dido was the queen of Carthage (actually, the one who founded the city according to legend) and she was beautiful, brave and charismatic...when Aeneas escaped from Troy, he was shipwrecked to the coast of Africa and arrived at Carthage. They fell in love, but his destiny was to go to Italy and found Rome, so the gods forbade him from staying in Carthage and he had to leave her. She was so desperate that she committed suicide.
...She was the classical example of a beautiful, clever and charming woman ruined by a man
By the way, speaking of Virgil an Marie Antoinette, I find very impressing the virgilian words quoted by Walpole about the queen: "vera incessu patuit dea"...she show herself a true gooddess by the way she walked. In the Aeneid it's referred to Venus, who meets Aeneas in incognito and is rcognized by him as a goddess because of the way she moves; Walpole used that expression to refer to the Queen's charme

Ah, thank you. That is rather sad tale though.

I wish I had that amount of grace! I'm awkward though. I still aspire to have that amount of grace though!

I'm awkward and I'm clumsy! It's a deadly combination.

I was also awkward when I was around 15 (or at least I thought I was) and now everyone says I'm graceful...so sometimes it'sjust something you develop with time :queen:

I agree with you. Young teens often are clumpsy for they think they are... As a teacher, I am always astonished about how, turning a few years older and feeling better in their bodies, they develop their grace and feminity.
