I don't know, dear Therese... However, I already noticed that some scholars consider Mme de Tourzel's memoirs with caution. The Giraut de Coursac couple, for instance. I agree with them. All these characters who wrote their souvenirs years and years later may have forgotten things, or make mistakes, or actually tell rumours... Let's take Mme Vigée, she often mistakes dates... and Henriette, she so many times follows her own imagination...

That's why I tend to rely on archives when they exist more than on memoirs.

Yes, personal accounts always diverge a bit. It is human nature. When my sister and I talk about growing up you would never guess that we are talking about the same parents and the same household.....
