Gasp! I realized there's a pig icon. Sorry it's a bit random. :pig:

I am delighted to say that I have found a post on a website that contains both things I love. The 18th century and pigs. This pig could arrange cards in numerical order, tell time, and read ladies' minds. According to the pig's advertisement.

The brilliant mind Samuel Johnson said this in praise of pigs.

The pigs are a race unjustly calumniated," rather than killing a piglet,we should allow time for his education."

And I couldn't agree any more with Samuel Johnson! :)

Here is the site:

Indeed, indeed... pigs, boars, wild hogs, anything of that kind are very intelligent animals. One of the smartest pigs I've heard of was on the Oprah Winifrey show. I'm not sure if many of you in France know of her, or have seen her shows before, but she has very interesting shows, but there was this one particular show she did about animal heroes, and it featured a pig.

This was years ago earlier in this decade, Oprah had a guest on the show who not too long ago in her rural home with a dog, and really big pig, had a medical emergency. She collapsed on the kitchen floor, and her pet pig realized her owner wasn't moving. The dog was also near his owner but he remained seated on the couch, unmoved. The pig went outside, through the doggy door, which in mind, only allows a 45 lb dog to go through, and she was well close to 100. Despite the narrow frame of the door, she managed to squeeze herself through scraping her sides, and went out on the middle of the street and laid down. She waited a few moments, no cars came in so she went back through the doggy door and checked on her owner. She then saw her owner was okay, but still wasn't able to move, she went back outside...again, through the door, again...and laid herself on the street, hoping maybe a good samaritan would stop for her. Nothing happened, she went back inside to check on her owner, and came back out again to get help for her owner, while the dog (the entire time) was still laying on the couch. She laid on the street asphalt this time longer, hoping a car would come by. God answered her hopes. A car saw a pig laying on the street as if it was hurt (and she was, from scraping her sides going in and out the door so much, she was bleeding quite a lot), and stopped his car. As soon as he came out to see if the pig was okay... the pig got up and directed the man into the house, as he followed her. Luckily for him the door wasn't locked so he was able to come in followed by the pig who lead the man to the kitchen where her owner was... he found the woman laying on the ground unable to get up on her own, and he called for help. She remained stable, and the poor pig was treated by a local vet for her injuries as well, but that was a small sacrifice she made to save her owner, a very heroic act by an animal.

So on the Oprah show, the lady who was obviously well told her how lucky she is to have her pig there and if it weren't for her she'd probably die in the house. It was an old story, but one of the most memorable stories ever, and it shows how clever and intelligent some animals are, especially the pig species!

I thought this site was interesting which explains the relationship between pigs and humans. For instance the reason why pork is a taboo because of all animal meat it supposedly tastes like human. :/

Another part I found interesting is that the ancient Greeks would sacrifice pigs to the goddess Demeter, to emulate the sadness of losing a loved one, when Demeter lost her daughter Kore. The women would raise their pigs as pets and they would be greatly saddened.
