Let's all be BBF's! *Strawberry Fields Forever plays*.For some reason I feel rather hippy-esque for saying that oh well.

That's ok. I like The Beatles and their songs, I'm not obsessed with them though. I'm more of a Johnny Cash type.

you mean who is in my avatar?

if so, its from a book: THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF COSTUME & FASHION

The description of the picture is "A french aristocrat is shown choosing fabrics chez Bertin, one of the most prestegious dressmakers of her time"

from what i can see the fabric is very pretty. I had a feeling it was Bertin. Who is the author of this book? Also, have you read it? i assume you have... if so is it a good read?

The fabric does look gorgeouse. I'm crazy about fabric, I always find myself buying beautiful fabrics with no purpose for them! The fabric in the painting looks to me like a heavy weight golden (maybe irredesent) silk brocade, it looks very rich and must've been veeeeeeery expensive (in its day) considering it's complex brocade hand woven design. What I would'nt give to own authentic hand woven 18'th century brocade (sighs)

Anyway... the book is by Bronwyn Cosgrave and I've only read a few paragraphs here and there. I'm not big on reading; I'm more of a picture reader (so Marie Antoinette  )

I'd say this book is like an introduction to the history of fashion, suitable for any fashion history beginner.

If you're intrested in fashion history I know of other great detailed books. The best one I own is the one I bought for my fashion history class in college, it does'nt have many pictures but it's loaded with detailed information on apparrel through the ages. Definitely a good read.

Let me know if youre intrested; I'd be more than happy to share what I know with you.

Apparently one amongst the worst jobs in England was to sweep away the debris in the looms/machines in 18th century England, if you weren't quick enough you could very well lose a finger or a limb.
